Is it ok to doubt God?

Many people assume that if they have questions, struggles, or moments of uncertainty, then something must be wrong with their relationship with God.

But doubt isn't the enemy of faith. Doubt is actually an invitation to rely on God more deeply.

The Disciples Doubted

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the foundation of Christianity.

If Jesus had simply died, He would have been remembered as a great teacher or prophet. But Jesus conquered death and rose from the grave. Everything hangs on that truth. One detail in Luke's account of the resurrection often gets overlooked is when the women returned from the empty tomb and told the disciples what they had seen, Scripture says:

“These words seemed to them like nonsense, and they did not believe them." Luke 24:11

The disciples doubted.

The people who walked with Jesus, listened to His teaching, witnessed His miracles, and heard Him prophecy His resurrection. Yet when they first heard the news, they struggled to believe.

Their doubt didn't make them failures. It made them human.

Peter's Response to Doubt

What makes Peter's story so powerful isn't that he never doubted, it's what he did with his doubt. Instead of walking away, Peter ran toward the truth and physically ran toward the empty tomb. That response is a model for every believer. When questions arise, when circumstances become confusing, when faith feels difficult, our response shouldn't be to run away from God, it should be to run toward Him.

Doubt becomes dangerous when it causes us to stop pursuing truth, but when doubt drives us to seek God more deeply, it can strengthen our faith.

Grace for Imperfect People

Peter's story is also a reminder that God's grace is bigger than our failures. This is the same Peter who denied Jesus three times. The same Peter who struggled, questioned, and failed. Yet after the resurrection, Jesus restored him.

Why?

Because grace is not earned. Grace is received. The gospel is not about perfect people finding God, it's about imperfect people being found by God. Every one of us has moments we'd rather forget. Every one of us has failures, regrets, and shortcomings, yet Jesus meets us in those places with grace.

What If You're Doubting Right Now?

Many Christians experience seasons of doubt but feel afraid to talk about it. Maybe you're questioning things you've always believed, or you're wrestling with difficult circumstances. Maybe you're trying to reconcile faith with disappointment or unanswered prayers.

You're not alone.

Faith isn't the absence of questions, it is choosing to trust God while you continue seeking answers. Peter had questions, and he ran to find the answers. The key is not to abandon the search.

Keep reading Scripture.

Keep praying.

Keep asking questions.

Keep pursuing Jesus.

If you're walking through a season of doubt, don't run away from God, run to Him. Because God's grace is greater than your questions.
